Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park in Maine is one of the top 10 National Parks in the United States.

That’s pretty high praise for Acadia when you look at the esteemed competition of some of the more well known Park locations.

Popular Mechanics said that Acadia was one of 10 National Parks to See before You Die.

Acadia “More than 30,000 acres encompass a vast forest and a beautiful stretch of rocky shoreline. Acadia is the first federally protected land that would become the park was set aside by President Woodrow Wilson in 1913, but this is yet another park in the great legacy of John D. Rockefeller, Jr., who donated about one-third of the park’s acreage and is responsible for building the carriage roads now enjoyed by hikers, bikers and equestrians.”

Huffington called Acadia one of the 6 Best American National Parks.

“The Park is on Mount Dessert Island, which offers extensive views of the Atlantic (and people in boats whale watching).  See Cadillac Mountain, with sweeping views of the harbor.”

Acadia a magical place for an amazing photography experience!

Fox rated #6 in their comparison.

They said “Despite modest size and scale, compared to the western parks, I am always delighted by the harmony and diversity of coast, mountains, ponds, and forest, with some of the most beautiful fall foliage on the East Coast, at the intersection of temperate and northern vegetation zones,” “The old carriage trails are perfect for bicycle riding. Be sure to enjoy a sunset from the top of Cadillac Mountain.”

Lonely Planet.com Called the sunrise one of the “Top 10 US National Parks travel experiences“

“Catching the country’s ‘first sunrise’ from the top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia is, hands down, one of the finest ways to kick off a day. At 1530 ft, Cadillac Mountain is the highest point on Maine’s Mount Desert Island, and the views over the Atlantic are sublime. The island is one of the easternmost points in the USA, and, while it’s technically not the first place that catches the morning sun, we prefer to do what everyone else up top is doing at sunrise: ignoring the technicalities and blissing out.”

Why Acadia?

Humboldtspan.org in its article titled “Top-5 US National-parks ranked Acadia #5

Located in Maine this is the only park on the list that is in the eastern US. The reason for this is largely that the parks in the east tend to be quite small. While this is true of Acadia it still makes the list because of the spectacular scenery that it offers. The park offers both mountains and beaches and is a very popular destination for whale watching. In fact it is probably the best place in the US for seeing whales.
